SGB-SMIT POWER MATLA a leading brand in the manufacture and supply of transformers is looking for a buyer for our Large Power Transformer operation in Pretoria.

Overview of responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the planning and purchasing of material in order to support the manufacturing process and meet production objectives. He/she will provide a purchasing service to other departments and functions within the company. He/she will make contact with suppliers with regards to quotes; purchase orders confirmation, price discussions; on time delivery and supplier enquiries and ensure weekly follow-up and communication with suppliers regarding outstanding deliveries of materials, price analysis and cost management to ensure continuous price improvements for the company. The candidate will actively search for suppliers with the necessary skills, quality and product knowledge that would best fit the company’s requirement and must also adhere to the Health and Safety Act.  The required candidate must work according to SGB-SMIT POWER MATLA quality standards, follow procedures and instructions.

Qualifications & Experience:

The candidate must have a Grade 12 certificate.  A national diploma/degree in purchasing or equivalent will be beneficial. A minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role in a manufacturing industry or engineering environment is essential.  Computer literacy is essential.  An operational knowledge of SAP MM and working experience with the MRP system module would be advantageous. Must be able to liaise and negotiate with suppliers and show strong ethical behaviour.
