JOB SPECIFICATION OVERVIEW:

A career opportunity exists for a Human Resources Officer at SGB-SMIT POWER MATLA based at the Cape Town Distribution Plant.  The candidate will be expected to help improve HR initiatives, enhance staff morale, contribute to attaining business goals, promote good HR practices including efficient and effective recruitment and selection initiatives.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Partner with line management to provide an effective, value adding HR service to meet the demands of a high-performance organisation.
  • Proactively interact with line management and employees by support through professional human resource management services.
  • Market the HR department by being visible and available on the shop floor and promote the Company’s values and code of ethics.
  • Assist to develop relevant and supporting training initiatives and plans.
  • Assist to compile month-end reports with a qualitative summary of statistics for the departments (overtime trends, etc.)
  • Assist with employee relations topics such as facilitating shop floor employee relations interactions and providing guidance on the application of the disciplinary code and procedure.
  • Assist with employee absence management.
  • Assisting with grievance and disciplinary hearings.
  • Maintaining case summaries for CCMA / Bargaining Council referrals and keeping records for future reference.
  • Ensure effective recruitment and selection as per business processes and according to the recruitment strategy and employment equity targets.
  • Conduct on-boarding orientation for new employees and exit interviews and provide qualitative reports to line management and HR for continuous improvement.
  • Assist with the various projects like internships and the compilation of a Workplace Skills and EE plans.
  • Assist with the completion of any other reports.
QUALIFICATIONS AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • We are seeking a committed and approachable individual, who is passionate about HR and highly efficient.
  • A degree or BTech in Human Resources or relevant qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in a highly unionized environment within the manufacturing sector.
  • Interviewing skills.
  • Experience working on a payroll and HR admin system.
  • Working knowledge of HR Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of Employment Law
